What do I need to do when someone dies?
When someone dies, it can feel overwhelming. At Casselden & Walsh, we’re here to make things clear and simple. Our role is to guide you through every step with compassion and care, so you feel supported and reassured from the very first call. Here's our step by step guide.
1
Contact us
When someone dies, the first thing to do is call us. We’re available 24 hours a day, and from the moment you reach out, we take care of everything with dignity and respect. We’ll arrange to bring your loved one into our care, explain what needs to happen next, and guide you through registering the death and planning the funeral. Our goal is to make the process simple and reassuring, so you feel supported at every stage.
2
Bringing Your Loved One Into Our Care
Once the medical examiner has followed their procedure and a medical practitioner has completed a MCCD (Medical Certificate of Cause of Death), we will arrange to bring your loved one into our care as soon as possible. This is done with dignity and respect, whether from home, hospital, or hospice.
3
Registering the Death
We’ll explain how to register the death with the local registrar. This is a legal requirement, and we’ll guide you through the paperwork and what documents you’ll need.
4
Planning the Funeral
Once the death is registered, we’ll help you plan the funeral. This includes choosing between burial or cremation, deciding on the type of service (religious, humanist, or celebration of life), and arranging personal touches like music, flowers, and readings.
5
Confirming details
We’ll confirm all arrangements with you, including the date, time, and venue. We’ll also liaise with clergy, celebrants, and local partners to ensure everything runs smoothly.
6
The day of the funeral
On the day, our team will be there to support you and manage every detail, so you can focus on saying goodbye.
7
After Care
Our support doesn’t end when the funeral is over. We offer bereavement resources, practical advice, and help with memorial arrangements.
